On finish

Finish is the last pass that makes a surface feel inevitable rather than rushed.

Studio notes

Finish is what separates a draft from something you would sign. It is alignment, spacing, link text that tells the truth, and copy cut until nothing redundant remains.

We finish in passes. First pass: say the thing. Second pass: remove anything that repeats it. Third pass: walk the links, check the headings, read aloud for rhythm. If a page still feels noisy, we remove a section rather than add explanation.

Finish applies to code and copy alike. A button label is copy. An error message is copy. A footer is copy. Each must sound like the same studio.

We do not ship "good enough for now" on public URLs we intend to keep. Staging exists so "now" does not become a permanent excuse. When we publish here, we expect to maintain the page.

Finish also means restraint with motion and chrome. A page that animates for its own sake has not finished thinking. See On restraint, On time, and A working surface.
